Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally secured the Peoples Democratic Party ticket for Kogi Central Senatorial District, setting the stage for another major  political battle in one of Kogi State’s most watched constituencies.

Akpoti-Uduaghan received her Certificate of Return on Wednesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, confirming her as the party’s candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The certificate was presented during a ceremony attended by the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed; National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; and other candidates of the party.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said candidates and leaders of the party must inspire public confidence through service, integrity and genuine commitment to the welfare of citizens.

“Our responsibility as leaders and candidates is to inspire confidence through service, integrity, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of our people,” she stated.

The senator also called for issue-based campaigns and stronger grassroots engagement, saying Nigerians expect leaders who will prioritise development, justice, accountability and economic opportunities.

According to her, the PDP must continue to deepen its relationship with citizens and prove that it is ready to confront the country’s social and economic challenges through people-centred policies.

The senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has flagged off the planting of 10,000 economic trees across communities in Kogi Central.

The project aligns with the global climate action agenda championed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through its annual Conference of the Parties (COP).

The initiative, themed “Growing Kogi Central, Building Our Future,” is designed to combat climate change, restore degraded landscapes, prevent soil erosion, improve biodiversity, strengthen food security, and create sustainable economic opportunities for thousands of households across the district.

The project will plant carefully selected economic tree species, including mangoes, guavas, oranges, moringa, neem, and other indigenous species renowned for their environmental, nutritional, medicinal, and commercial benefits.

At the launch, Natasha described the initiative as far more than a tree-planting exercise, saying it represents a strategic investment in the future of Kogi Central and a local contribution to the global campaign against climate change.

“Today, Kogi Central is joining the global movement for climate action. Every tree we plant is a symbol of hope, resilience, and our collective determination to leave behind a healthier environment and a stronger economy for future generations.”

The Senator explained that the project aligns with the objectives advanced at successive United Nations Climate Change Conferences (COP), where governments, institutions, and stakeholders commit to reducing the impact of climate change through sustainable environmental practices, ecosystem restoration, and increased carbon sequestration.

She noted that tree planting remains one of the most practical and effective natural climate solutions, helping to absorb carbon dioxide, restore ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and improve livelihoods.

“The United Nations has consistently encouraged nations and communities to embrace nature-based solutions to climate change. Through this initiative, we are domesticating those global commitments here in Kogi Central by translating international climate goals into tangible community development.”

Senator Natasha, who has consistently demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability and climate advocacy, said her vision is to ensure that Kogi Central becomes a model for community-driven environmental conservation in Nigeria.

According to her, the project is deliberately focused on economic trees because they not only improve the environment but also provide families with lasting economic value through fruit production, medicinal uses, and commercial opportunities.

“Environmental sustainability and economic prosperity must go hand in hand. Our people should not have to choose between protecting the environment and earning a living. These trees will provide cleaner air, healthier communities, increased food production, additional household income, and lasting environmental protection.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has facilitated the installation of free internet (Wi-Fi) across the Federal College of Education, Okene.

The initiative, unveiled on Sunday, aims to enhance internet access for students and boost teaching, learning, research, and innovation within the institution. A statement issued in Abuja by her media aide, Mike Idoko, confirmed the development.

Speaking after the inauguration, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the project as part of her broader commitment to expanding educational opportunities and preparing young people for the digital economy.

“Education remains one of the greatest investments we can make in our future. Access to the internet is no longer a luxury; it is an essential tool for learning, innovation, research, and economic empowerment. Our students deserve the same digital opportunities available anywhere in the world,” she said.

She added that the free Wi-Fi facility will remove barriers to knowledge, encourage innovation, support academic excellence, and equip students with digital skills to compete globally.

Students will now have better access to international learning resources, online certifications, artificial intelligence tools, software development, entrepreneurship training, and remote work opportunities.
