Natasha Akpoti unveils plan to plant 10,000 economic trees across Kogi central

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central, has launched a project to plant 10,000 economic trees across communities in the district.

She said the initiative, themed ‘Growing Kogi Central, Building Our Future’, is aimed at addressing climate change, restoring degraded land, preventing soil erosion, improving biodiversity, strengthening food security and creating economic opportunities for residents.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said the initiative was more than a tree-planting exercise, describing it as an investment in the future of Kogi central and a contribution to global efforts to combat climate change.

“Today, Kogi Central is joining the global movement for climate action. Every tree we plant is a symbol of hope, resilience, and our collective determination to leave behind a healthier environment and a stronger economy for future generations,” she said.

The senator said the project aligns with the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and resolutions adopted at successive Conferences of the Parties (COP), which encourage ecosystem restoration and carbon sequestration through nature-based solutions.
